Union #4: State by State LGBT Rights
& Issues
In
honor of our 2009 event theme, "In
Order to Form a More Perfect
Union...," SF Pride is keeping tabs
on the state of LGBT rights and
community issues in each of the
states and territories in the Union.
Below are the second set in the
series.
Tell us
what issues are affecting the LGBT
community in your state.
Maryland - Maryland General
Assembly protects domestic partner
inheritance tax rights.
Minnesota
– Senator proposes marriage equality
bill in state Senate for economic
reasons.
Missouri - Kansas City
Police
Department eliminates domestic
partner health insurance.
Tennessee – Public schools deny
access to information about LGBT
issues online.
Washington – Bill provides
expanded rights to same-sex domestic
partners.

Calling all Movement Vets! Stonewall/GLF 40th Anniversary
Contingent
Our history matters. This
year, as we commemorate the passing
of forty years of LGBT activism in
the wake of Stonewall and the
emergence of the Gay Liberation
Front (GLF), the 2009 San Francisco
Pride Parade will feature a
contingent of Stonewall and GLF vets
whose contributions to the movement
have been many.
The Stonewall/GLF 40 contingent
will lead the parade off after Dykes
on Bikes. The organizers are looking
for any Stonewall and GLF vets to
join in this historic 40th
anniversary commemoration.
Additionally, any veterans or former
participants in the Daughters of
Bilitis, the Mattachine
Society, the Society of
Individual Rights, the Tavern
Guild, the early bike clubs
likes the California Motorcycle
Club, and the Compton's
Cafeteria Riots are also welcome
to be a part of this historic
reunion contingent. The first
planning meeting takes place this
week.
For more information contact the
committee co-chairs, Peter
Fiske, Tommi Avicolli-Mecca, and
Mark Barnes at:

ACTION:
Meet in the Middle 4 Equality
On the FIRST Saturday
AFTER the Prop 8 verdict
Rally for national
LGBT equality the first
Saturday AFTER the
California Supreme Court
issues its rulings on the
Proposition 8 cases. Meet on
the steps of City Hall in
downtown Fresno at 1:00 PM.
Why
Fresno? The battle for
equality has to be fought in
towns like Fresno, CA — not
only in gay-friendly cities. California's
Central Valley population is
reflective of
national attitudes towards
LGBT Equality and until we
engage the communities of
"middle-America", we will
not gain the full equality
we deserve.

San Francisco Pride is a free
community event. Economic
accessibility is an important part
of staying true to our commitment to
the community.
So to keep SF Pride free, we ask for
your donation at the gate.
Your donation not only supports
Pride but goes on to support more
than 70 non-profit organizations.
Donating the requested minimum at
the gate also earns you a donor
sticker and discounts at
Pride's beverage booths.
And who doesn't love a sticker??
Since 1997, SF Pride has given over
$1.4 million back to the community
through our Community Partners
Program -- and these are dollars
that are donated by attendees
like you.

Community Partners Program,

Green
is the New Pink: SF Pride's
Composting & Recycling Program
San Francisco Pride has a long history of being at the
forefront of green practices at our event. Not
only is SF Pride one of the greenest events of our size,
we are also one the first major outdoor events in the
nation to institute a large-scale composting program.
But to be truly successful, we need
our attendees' support.
San
Francisco Pride provides marked disposal
cans for recycling (marked blue), composting (marked
green), and trash (marked black). Marked signs will also
be posted by the receptacles to help.
All
beverage cups used at our
event are 100% compostable and are made from
natural derivatives -- please toss these in the green compost
bins at the event.
To help us keep an event this size as green as possible,
your support in using the compost, recycling, and trash
bins is crucial. Our goal is to reduce Pride's
ecological footprint as we continue to pioneer green
event practices. Large recycling and composting bins are made
available throughout the
Celebration area at Civic Center. Please read
the signage and place your trash in the appropriate containers.
We love
sending you these Newsletters
and keeping you up-to-date, but
if you would prefer not to
receive them any more just
reply to the message and place
the word "REMOVE" in subject
heading to let us know.
