All,

The Dyke March is almost upon us, and we are seeking volunteers for Security/Safety shifts to help ensure a safe march and park event for all. Shifts are generally between an hour and a half and two hours, and we would greatly appreciate your help. Besides the reward of sheer joy in serving the dyke community, you also get bathroom perks!

The following is a brief description of the types of shifts available. If you are interested, please email me with your contact information, as well as what you are interested in. I will then contact you to talk about times.

Thank You for considering helping out,

Dyke March Security/Safety Coordinator

MORNING BACK STAGE WATCH
Since the Dyke March shares stage responsibility with the Trans March, equipment is left set up overnight. There is overnight security, but we need folks to just hang out in the morning, keeping an eye on the sound equipment until the sound techs arrive. Shift times TBD.

PARK ROAMERS
You will just basically roam the crowd to make sure that there are no urgent medical or safety needs that need to be dealt with. It will not be your job to administer any medical help, get involved in any disputes, or confront any illegal activity. We just want to be radioed if there are situations where the safety of event goers is in jeopardy, not to police the party. The Coordinators will then determine if we need to get help dispatched from trained professionels. Roamers will also walk in pairs with the donation gatherers to the collection point at the beginning or end of their shifts. Time shifts TBD

BACK STAGE
You will control the gate and perimeter of the back stage area to ensure that only authorized people are let in, and that no one jumps the fence to use the bathroom or take equipment. Time Shifts TBD

MARCH START AND MARCH MONITORING
You will help us organize the start of the march at the intersection of 18th and Dolores. Once Muni stops running, we will need to move barricades to help ensure that the Motorcycle Dykes can safely move through the intersection when they start, as well as get the disabled trolly, sound truck, disabled contingent and dykes with tikes safely in line. We also want volunteers to fall in with the march at different points and be on radio so we can know where the whole march is as it winds its way around the march route. We would prefer if the same people did the march start and then just fell in with the march, but if you can only do one or the other, we would still love to have you. This shift starts at 6pm and then goes till the end of the march route for monitors.
