Dear friends,

One of the best things about the Exiles is that all of our business
meetings are open to all members, that anyone can make proposals and be
part of the discussions, and that all of our officers are drawn from the
membership. Our next business meeting is this Sunday, 5-7pm at the Marxist
Library, 6501 Telegraph Ave., in Oakland.

The beginning of the year means the time is coming for us to elect
officers. One of our 2 Co-coordinators, plus our Membership Officer,
Treasurer, and Recorder are elected by the members at our March program.
Nominations shall be made at the beginning of the February
program and printed in the March newsletter. Additional nominations may be
made at the beginning of the March program. Then all of the members at the
program vote by written ballot.

Our Newsletter Editor, PR Officer, Orientation Officer, Doorkeeper,
Sergeant-at-Arms, Web Site Manager, and Volunteer Coordinator are elected
by all of the eligible people at our April business meeting.

What does all this mean to you? It means that YOU can be one of the group
of people who make the Exiles run! We're a fun bunch of women (and
genderqueer) officers, and we'd like you to join us. We have a bunch of new
members this year, and several new officers bringing their new spirit with
them. You can be one of those people!

There are some requirements to be an officer, and to vote on the officers
at our April business meeting *any member can vote at the March program).
Chief among them is that you have to have attended the last 2 business
meetings in order to vote. The officer positions require more (you can read
all the details at
http://theexiles.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/ExilesArticlesAndPolicies-Mar13.pdf),
but even if you don't qualify, if you're interested we can fit you in as an
'acting' officer, or an officer in training, or an assistant to the
officer, and we'll help you learn the ropes (figuratively speaking). We
want as many people as possible to be involved!

Our next business meeting is this Sunday, 5-7pm at the Marxist Library,
6501 Telegraph Ave., in Oakland. Come on by and see what we're all about!

See you there,
Rio
Co-coordinator
